I'm a Cheetah
I'm a Cheetah

I'm a Cheetah is enjoying grazing. This photo was taken when the dandelions were out in droves, and she was relishing the lush grass.

She's managing to cope in the heat, despite being 24 years old. She has access to shade, shelter, and water at all times. We bred her, raced her (she was 'Stakes Placed'), and she is the dam of our most successful racehorse, I'm a Kittyhawk. She deserves to enjoy a happy retirement!

See below for the video of Audi's World's second race this season. I've also included a short clip of him leaving the saddling-up area (called the paddock) at Woodbine Racetrack just before the race.

Hurrah! I've finally come up with a working title for Book 7 of my Meg Sheppard Mystery Series: 'Buried Secrets'. I'm starting the fun editing stage (yes, I do love editing!).

Here are the mini stories.

The first was a three-minute on-the-spot writing challenge, with the prompt 'black hat':

NB: It is not polished - it was written in haste to beat the clock!!

He dropped his large black hat on the floor and frightened the cat, who squealed and flashed his claws at the dishevelled man. Why didn't the man reverse his spell and return him to human form? The man was falling apart and no longer worthy of the title 'Supreme Wizard of Uxbridge'.

The cat was furious and spat on the man's shoe, but then had a brainwave: he would review the book of spells himself. That's why and how the wizard turned into a frog and the cat became a dog. Unfortunate. But you can't have everything your way all of the time.

With no one to look after him, he ended up in the pound. Mark adopted him, but became puzzled and confused when the dog grew wings.

This was a ten-minute on-the-spot writing challenge, with the prompt of a picture of tables with umbrellas on the beach.

The heat intensified to the point that it was too painful for Joan to walk on the sand in bare feet. She was late, beads of sweat covering her upper lip, lethargy seeping into her muscles as she struggled to put on her sandals. The sun radiated off the sea, dazzling her as she made her way to the only table which was effectively shaded by an umbrella. Most of the large orange canvas coverings were tilted the wrong way or had broken long ago, no longer attempting to do their work.

He wasn't sitting in his usual seat.

Her heart missed a beat as she scanned the other tables, feeling flustered and growing alarmed. He wasn't there, and he was always on time. She was always late.

Her eyes were drawn to the open sea. She feared the worst. He would be at the table as promised unless some tragedy had occurred to prevent it. She was absolutely and totally of the belief that her son would never let her down. He must have drowned. He'd insisted on taking the sailboat out, and yes, the wind had picked up, an offshore wind which was more dangerous. And he didn't know the waters well. There were eddies and rocks and sandbanks.

Just as she started to hyperventilate, she heard him laughing - strolling towards her with a beautiful young woman holding his hand.

Audi's June Race:

This is Audi leaving the 'paddock'. He has a new jockey, David Moran (who rode I'm a Kittyhawk mentioned above), and a new trainer, Kelly Callaghan.

Here's the race:

He was keen to start, but we were unlucky with the track conditions again. David said Audi didn't take well to the challenging surface.

I'm hoping he'll get a chance to run on the turf!

Happy summer reading!

Remember, the Meg Sheppard Mystery Series are great books to take on vacation! And there are many other wonderful books to be found at your local independent bookstore, of course!!

Thank you for reading my post.

Please share.
